Biography

Kewaunee Star Death of Chas. Molle Pioneer Settler died Suddenly, Sunday Afternoon.

Chas. Molle, one of the pioneer German residents of the county was stricken with heart failure while driving a herd of cows to pasture Sunday afternoon, and passed away a few minutes later. Mr. Molle was carried to the house by his son-in-law Martin Brezinski and made as comfortable as possible, but death occurred before medical aid could be procured. Deceased was not in the best of health the past four or five months and was under the care of a local physician at the time of his demise.

Mr. Molle was widely known in the county, his jovial disposition making him greatly liked and esteemed by his neighbors and friends. He was a very successful farmer, and the Molle homestead is one of the finest in the county today.

Chas. Molle was born in Marienflies, Stardgard, Province of Pommern, Germany on the 8th day of March, 1838. He received a good school education and was married on the 25th of July, 1864, in Germany to Miss Johanna Louise Schultz, his surviving wife. Shortly after their marriage they emigrated to America, landing at New York after a voyage of seven weeks on one of the old time sailing vessels. The young couple settled in New York, where Mr. Molle secured employment in the Kratz Mill as chief engineer. A year later they moved to Wisconsin, settling on a farm in Manitowoc County. After living a year at that place, Mr. Molle accepted a position as chief engineer in the Cloupek mill where he worked for four years and then went to Neshoto, in the same county, where he secured a like position in the sawmill at that place. In March 1872, Mr. Molle moved his family to this city where he secured employment as assistant sawyer in the Stransky Sawmill for a time and then worked during the winter months in Wilmott’s logging camp at Casco. In 1874 he purchased a farm in West Kewaunee which he conducted up to the time of his sudden death.

The union with Mrs. Molle was blessed with twelve children, two of which died in infancy, the ten surviving being Herman of this city, Anton and Otto of Antigo, John of Wausau, Willie of West Kewaunee, Mrs. Geo. Reinhart of De Pere, Mrs. Frank Seidl of Menominee, Mrs., John Smith, Mrs. Martin Brezinski of West Kewaunee, Mrs. Ed Seeman of this city.

Funeral services were held yesterday afternoon from the Union Congregational Church, Rev. Hoffman officiating. The members of the local order of Odd Fellows, to which lodge the deceased belonged for over twenty years, took part in the funeral in a body.
