(Royal Ancestry & Royal Tombs of Medieval England) She died July 17, 1431 and was buried in St. Nicholas's Chapel in Westminster Abbey as instructed by her will dated the previous year. The will gave elaborate instructions for her funeral with monies given to 1,000 poor, men and women. Her estate included division four ways for masses and the relief of prisoners, the poor and wayward. Her burial appears to have been one of the first in the chapel of St. Nicholas. Richard II had earlier instructed the burial of Philippa's second husband, John Golofre, in the ambulatory beside the position selected for his own monument. Philippa's tomb comprises a freestone effigy and freestone paneled heraldic tomb-chest, and was traditionally thought to have stood in the center of the chapel. Its present position is against the fifteenth-century chapel screen. The south side of her Westminster tomb-chest displays the arms of Philippa's husbands and parents. The arms on the east side are Mohun, and Mohun quartered with York.
