Katie was born about 1873, likely in Dekalb County, Illinois. She is the daughter of Henry Mohr and Anna Casper.^[1]

Her parents were married in Iowa County, Iowa on 08 Aug 1872,^[2] but the 1880 U.S. census shows her birth location as Illinois.^[1] This is consistent with the records of her younger brother, William Peter Mohr (b. 4 Jul 1875),^[3] who's records also show his birth location as Illinois.^[4][5] Her father lived in Dekalb County in 1870 with his parents, so it is possible her birth location could be found here.^[6]

Her parents are mentioned in her 1915 and 1923 marriage records.^[7][8]

Research Notes

Conflation with Kate (Mohr) Law of Cook County, IL: She should not be confused with Kate (Mohr) Law of Cook County, Illinois. She was b. 29 May 1871 in Mt. Forest, Cook, IL; d. 21 Feb 1959 in Chicago, IL; m. 16 Jun 1896 in Chicago, Cook, IL to William Law.^[12][13][14] Henry Mohr's family was never recorded in Cook County and he did not marry until 08 Aug 1872. This Kate Law was born in 1871 and her death certificate records her father as Adam Mohr.^[14] Kate Law was also mentioned in the obituary of her brother, John C. Mohr, who was born 13 Jun 1867 in Mt. Forest, Illinois and died 03 Aug 1956 in Chicago, Cook, Illinois, and whose father was named Adam. This obituary also mentions a brother named George Mohr.^[15][16] Henry Mohr and Anna Casper had no sons with the names John C. or George, or a son with a birthdate matching John C. Mohr.

Age on her marriage records: It's noted some of her marriage records show she was born about 1886 - 1889.^[7][8]. The 1880 U.S. census proves she was born earlier.^[1]
