Biography

''The forcefulness of his talk can only be appreciated by the close friends of Mr. Moeller, those who knew the inner man of him, his pride in good work, his pride in knowing what was right and sparing no effort to accomplish right without offending those about him. Mastering his own burdens and always willing to help another less fortunate than himself. These traits being carried on to the very end, when the guardian angel said, “Welcome home thou faithful servant”.[1]

  • On June 18, 1873, the Moeller family left Hamburg on the ship "Holsatia". On one page of the ship manifest is listed Catharine (50), Heinr (Fritz) (21), Anna (18), Lena (14) and Hannis (Johannus) (9). Carl (54) and Heinr (Paul Heinrich) (16) are listed on another page of the manifest. They would arrive in New York on July 2, 1873. His sister, Margaretha Catherine had immigrated in 1870 and was married and living in Nebraska at the time.[2]
  • From the 1880 census, a 27 year old Frederick Moeller is a laborer on a farm in Fort Calhoun, Douglas County, Nebraska. The farm is owned by Christian Staben.[3]
  • On July 23, 1881, "Fred" Moeller would marry Catherine (Schale) Moeller in Douglas County, Nebraska[4][5][6]

  • In 1885 the young family was farmers in Union Precinct, Douglas County, Nebraska. Frederick was 33, Catherine was 23, Emma was 3, Lena was 2 and Charlie was a newborn.[7]
  • By 1900, Fritz (49) and Catherine (39) had had eleven children, nine of which survived. Living on the family owned farm in Union Precinct were Lena (17), Charlie (16), Emil (11), Amanda (9), Albert (7), Clara (5) and Rudolph (4). Fritz's year of immigration is listed as 1873.[8]
  • By 1910, their youngest child would have been born. Fritz was 58 and Kate was 48. Children living on the family farm in Union Precinct were Lena (26), Emil (20), Amanda (18), Clara (15), Rudolph (14) and Ella (7). [9]
  • In 1920, Fritz was 68 and Catherine was 58. They were still on the family farm, but Henry (Emil) was the General Manager at 31 years of age. Rudolph was 23 and Ella was 17. Fritz was naturalized as a citizen in 1915.[10]
  • Fritz Moeller would die on December 15, 1927 in Omaha, Douglas County, Nebraska and would be buried in the Fort Calhoun Cemetery, Fort Calhoun, Washington County, Nebraska[11]
