Biography

OBITUARY: Doris Evelyn (Mitcham) Andrews passed peacefully from this earthly world to her heavenly home on January 31, 2018, at the age of 94 surrounded by her loving family. Battling a multitude of illnesses for the past few years, her health remained weak but her faith held strong. "I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith." 2 Timothy4:7.

She is survived by her loving husband of seventy-seven years, James Andrews and her daughters, Genelle Hurta and husband Mike of Angleton and Renae Simons and husband Bill of Friendswood. She is also survived by nine grandchildren, Randy Peltier of Danbury, Braden Peltier of Houston, Skylar Simons of Friendswood, and Billy Simons of Damon who were extremely close to her and their grandfather. Other surviving grandchildren are Ava Ladner, Shena Hagaman, Tara Andrews, Kevin Andrews and Kim Meneke. She is also survived by nineteen Great grandchildren, two brothers Vivion Mitcham of Gladewater and Jake Mitcham of Waco and numerous nieces and nephews.

Preceding her in death were her parents, Blanche and Vivion Mitcham, her brother Odell Mitcham, her son Alan Andrews, and her grandson Jaime Andrews.

Doris was a loving and devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She was the epitome of grace and always put the needs of her family before herself. She was a stay at home Mom for many years and later managed a fabric store in Angleton. She was an artful seamstress making all of her own clothing as well as clothing for her children and grandchildren.

A devout Christian, she was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Angleton for the past 40 years serving in whatever capacity she was needed. She loved the church and the music. Her favorite hymn was in The Garden. "And he walks with me and he talks with me and tells me I am his own, and the joy we share as we tarry there, no other has ever known."

The family would like to thank the loving caregivers during these last months of her life, Claudia Rios, Josephine Mendoza, Linda Magdaleno, Dr. Antony Thomas and Staff, Angleton Visiting Nurses, and IPH Hospice Care, Inc.

A graveside service and burial will take place in Rockdale, Texas at 1:00 p.m. Friday, February 2, 2018, at the Oak Lawn Cemetery. A public visitation will be Friday 10:30 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. at Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home in Rockdale. Honorary pallbearers are Jackie Mitcham, Randy Peltier, Braden Peltier, Billy Simmons, Bill Simons, and Mike Hurta.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the First United Methodist Church of Angleton in her memory.
