Roseville ~ Richard Mings, 91, of Roseville, IL, passed away Tuesday, September 6, 2016, at 7 p.m. at the Roseville Rehab and Healthcare Center in Roseville, IL. He was born in Monmouth, IL, the son of Leo Carl and Ella Pauline (Woodward) Mings. He married Bernadine Porter on June 27, 1948, in Stronghurst, IL. She preceded him in death on June 30, 1992. Those left to cherish his memory are one son, Robert (Mary) Mings, of Roseville, IL; grandchildren, Lissa Mings (Bobby Landon) of Roseville and Land (Hillary) Mings of Galesburg; one great-granddaughter, Brinley Mings. He was preceded in death by his parents and wife. He graduated Roseville High School in 1942. He served in the U.S. Army from 1943-1945 during World War II as Military Police stationed in England and served in Europe. He graduated Monmouth College in 1949, where he played basketball. He taught and coached at Monmouth High School from 1949-1951. He taught at Media High School in the 1960s and was the principal at Media Jr. High. He taught at Roseville High School in the 1970s. He was a member of the Roseville Christian Church. He belonged to the Roseville American Legion Post 614 and VFW Post 2301 in Monmouth. He served as a volunteer fireman in Roseville, and was on the Warren County Fair board and coached peewee, little league and the American Legion baseball teams. He was a petroleum salesman for F.S. for 13 years. He officiated basketball games and he and his wife officiated as a team for volleyball games. Funeral service will be Friday, September 9, 2016, at 11 a.m. at the Roseville Community Center in Roseville, IL. There will be no family visitation, although friends may call on Thursday, September 8, 2016, from 1 to 6 p.m. at the Wise Family-Hoover Hall Funeral Home in Monmouth, IL. Burial will be in Stronghurst, IL. Memorials may be made to Eldridge Park for a recreational project. Please sign the online guestbook at www.wisefamily-hooverhall.com.
