From Biographical Souvenir of the State of Texas:

"William D. Milliken was born in McCracken county Kentucky , November 1 1848, and is the eldest of three children of Harbison and Elizabeth Angeline (Gholson) Milliken, both natives of the State named. Harbison Milliken early in life, was a farmer, but later turned his attention to railroad contracting, which he followed until his end on earth, 1857. William D. Milliken was reared in McCracken county until 1859 when he with his mother emigrated to Parker county Texas, where he was reared on a farm until 1868, and was then engaged in clerking until 1874; then engaged in mercantile business on his own account until 1878 at different places in the State, when he entered into general merchandising at Lewisville, where he now has the most extensive store in the town, although he began life with nothing in the way of money. September 17, 1874 he married Miss Maggie C. Young, of Fort Worth, a daughter of Colonel William B. and Nancy B. (Gillespie) Young, and by this marriage has had born to him six children - William D., Jr., Samuel, Thomas G., Martin H., Maggie B., and Charlie Y. Mr. Milliken is a Free Mason, an Odd Fellow and a member of the Methodist Episcopal church South, and in every respect a most worthy citizen and gentleman."
