Biography

Nathaniel was born about 1762. He is the son of William Miller and Elizabeth Williamson.

There was a Nathaniel Miller that married an Ann Waugh on 5/7/1817 in Henrico Co., VA; however the Nathaniel Miller on this profile would have been 55 years old at this time a bit old to have been this person in 1817.

Sources

I am adding the Nathaniel Miller based on the family tree in the Ancestry.com link above (I changed his estimated birth year to 1762 from 1760 since he had a brother est. born in 1760 in the Ancestry.com family tree. Even though his estimated birth year is only 5 years later than my Nathaniel Miller in Middlesex County, Virginia (see the body of the Middlesex Co., VA Nathaniel Miller below) which is likely a mix of information applying to both these Nathaniel Miller's who likely were cousins. I have noticed Miller cousins some distance apart being given the same given names. I am going to refer to this Nathaniel Miller as the Henrico Co., VA Nathaniel Miller since many of his siblings were born in Henrico Co. (Place this statement above the information I think applies to the Henrico Co. Nathaniel Miller: "NATHANIEL MILLER- HENRICO CO."

"NATHANIEL MILLER- HENRICO CO." (given the Nathaniel Miller living with Dabney Miller is 22 years old; I will assume he is the Henrico Co. Nathaniel Miller living with his relative Dabney Miller b-1750 and working as a Wagoner (movement of goods)):

Father's (Christopher Miller) will probated 1/1/1760. Birthday can be calculated since Nathaniel was living with his brother Dabney Miller at Dabney and his wife, Sara's house in Richmond, Virginia (lots 461 & 462) per the 1782 US Census. Nathaniel's occupation on this census was listed as "wagoner".

Ancestry.com lists Nathaniel's birthday as 1/14/1757 (so he would have likely been 25 not 22 during the 1782 Richmond, VA census when living with Dabney Miller's family.

"NATHANIEL MILLER- HENRICO CO."

1783: Anne Virginia "Jean" Agnew papers in the Library of Virginia - Richmond note a "Nat." Miller in the 1783 Henrico Co., VA Census with 2 slaves. This likely is this Nathaniel Miller in his mid 20's, the younger brother of Dabney Miller - b- 1750 a well off citizen of Henrico Co. and Richmond, VA.

"NATHANIEL MILLER- HENRICO CO."

April 6, 1801 Henrico County, Virginia Tax List notes a Nathaniel "Millar" (would have been 44 in 1801) only responsible for himself; no blacks; horses/mules; carriages; ordinary licenses; or stud horses; and zero tax

On same 1801 Henrico Co. tax list above are listed: NOTE: These person's surname appears to be spelled "Millar"; the Scottish spelling of Miller; this is another indications that they more recently arrived in Virginia from Scotland versus my Middlesex Co., VA Miller's who arrive in Virginia from Scotland a couple of generations earlier.

0 John "Millar" (son of jon or lom?) - one horse; 12 cents tax

0 "Armandab" "Millar" - 2 horses; 24 cents tax (likely Nathaniel Miller's brother)

0 William "Millar", Sr. - also 2 horses; 24 cents tax

0 "Melchizeaeck" "Millar" - 1 horse; 12 cents tax

0 Edward "Millar" - nothing - $0 tax (likely Nathaniel Miller's brother)

0 John "Millar" (father of John Miller above?) WITH a John Cartwright (could this be the "Shortwright" surname that James Miller D-1656 notes in his will?). Together the two men have 3 blacks and 4 horses - $1.80 tax

0 Dabney "Millar" - nothing - $0 tax (likely Nathaniel Miller's brother)

0 "Elijah" "Millar" - nothing - $0 tax (likely Nathaniel Miller's brother)

Thoughts on the above "Millar's" on the 1801 tax list:

It is odd that they are all listed as “Millar” vs. Miller.

The John Millar (son of jon or lom?) could be a son of John Miller VI b- c. 1764 Isle of Wight Co., VA at about age 37 (none of his children or wife have been identified)

The William Millar, Sr. could be William Miller III b- c. 1768 Isle of Wight Co., VA at about age 33 (none of his children or wife have been identified)

The “Melchizeaeck” Millar has not been identified (could not find using FamilySearch.org)

The “Elijah” Millar (likely Nathaniel Miller's brother)
