Biography

Robert was born in about 1758, likely in Merrimack, New Hampshire. He and his sister Mary married Barnett siblings. The Miller and Barnett children lived right across the river from each other in Merrimack and Litchfield, NH respectively.

Although he lived at the time of the Revolutionary War in Bradford, Vermont, he enlisted across the river with the New Hampshire Bedel Regiment[1]. In this reference, he is listed in Bedel's Company of "Colonel Timothy Bedel's Regiment, 1775", as a resident of Bradford, Vermont, along with some familiar names i.e. Hugh Miller (certainly his father), and Robert Kenady (future brother-in-law), also of Bradford. Col. Bedel's Regiment was in service in Canada, including St. John's and other places, and in 1776 was ordered to join the "Northern Continental Army". They were near Crown Point (southern end of Lake Champlain near Ticonderoga) in Sept 1776. In the State of Vermont Rolls of Soldiers[2], Robert is again listed as part of Col. Bedel's NH Regiment. He is listed as part of Capt. John House's NH Company. He was also (like his father) a "scout" in Bradford, Vermont in 1781 under the command of Major John Barron[3][4].

In 1790, Robert is listed in the census for Bradford, Vermont, in a household of 8 persons, 3 males, 5 females[5]. In 1800, there is a Robert Miller listed in Mansfield, Vermont, that may be our subject[6]. (he was no longer on the Bradford census and it is not believed that he joined his parents and siblings in Richford). He is not the same Robert Miller that resided in Westminster, Vermont at this time (that was his first cousin).

Robert Miller is believed to have passed away in about 1814.
