Biography

Kermit Miller was the oldest brother of two famous siblings: Joan (Miller) Copeland, who became an actress on stage, film and television, and the famous prolific Pulitzer Prize winning American playwright and essayist, Arthur Asher Miller, who became the final husband of the famous Hollywood star, Marilyn Monroe.

Kermit graduated from James Madison High School in Brooklyn in 1930 and went on to New York University, but quit in his sophomore year to help his father with the ailing family buiness, at the depth of the Great Depression.

Kermit then worked as a carpet salesman.

In 1942 Kermit married Frances, a young intellectual Jewish native of Coney Island, Brooklyn, and then enlisted in the War. He was commissioned at Officers Candidate School and was sent to Europe, where he landed at Normandy Beach on D-Day, June 6, 1944.

He was discharged with a Purple Heart in 1945, and returned to carpet sales.

Kermit was featured in many of his brother Arthur's works. Arthur asked Kermit to be his best man at Arthur's 1956 wedding to Marilyn Monroe.

Kermit and Frances had one son,

Kermit died on his brother's birthday in 2003.

Ross Miller went on to become a university English professor and a friend of author Philip Roth.
