Edward William Tremayne Miles was born in 1884 in London. He was the son of Frederick Miles.
He married Mary Albinia Gibbs in Long Ashton, Somerset in July 1923. [1][2]
In 1909, he was fined £3 10s 10d for exceeding the ten mile per hour speed limit in a car by Slough Magistrates. He was described as of the Cavalry Club, Piccadilly, London. [4]
He was in the British Army, Royal Dragoons and had won the MC (Military Cross) for gallantry. He was wounded in 1915 fighting at the front in WWI [5] He reached the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel and was styled as: Lieutenant Colonel Edward William Tremayne Miles MC.
In 1942, he was nominated to be High Sheriff of Wiltshire, his address was the Manor House, Kington Langley, nr Chippenham, Wiltshire. [6]
He was a member of the Beaufort Hunt. [7]
In 1935 his wealthy cousin, Dr Philip Napier DLitt JP of Shirehampton, Gloucestershire left him in trust the bulk of his King's Weston estate in his will, after his wife ceases to use it. [8]
He passed away on 22 September 1943 of heart failure. [9] His executors included his wife and brother, Roderick. [10]
