Biography

Birth : John Jacob Meyer or Myers was the son of the immigrant Henry Myers of Mühlbach, Lancaster, PA.[1] He was born in 1732 in Lancaster County,[2][3] probably in Mühlbach where his family had settled. Evidence is needed to confirm the date of 4 February 1732 currently recorded in the profile.
1776 Project
Sergeant Jacob Meyer served with Northumberland County Militia, Pennsylvania Militia during the American Revolution.
Daughters of the American Revolution
Jacob Meyer is a DAR Patriot Ancestor, A083892.

John Jacob Myers served as a sergeant in the Revolutionary War in May and June of 1780. His name appears on the payroll of Lt Spees company from Northumberland. [4] He was a private when he served under Captain Michael Weaver as one of the Rangers on the Frontiers, who served between 1778 and1783, from Northumberland County, Pennsylvania. [2][5] Jacob's name appears on lists of citizens of Northumberland County who paid federal supply taxes.[2][6]

Marriage : Details of his marriage are unclear. Some descendants report that his wife's name was Susan Zartman, daughter of Jacob Zartman, but a power of attorney made out to his son Michael names her as Susanna Ream, daughter of Peter Ream of Dauphin County.[1][2] Further evidence is needed to clarify whether he was married twice, to two different women named Susan, or whether the reports of a marriage to Susan Zartman are in error.

Jacob's children are identified as :

  1. Catharine[1]
  2. Barbara[1]
  3. Philip[1]
  4. John Jacob[1]
  5. John George[1]
  6. Henry[1]
  7. Michael[1]
  8. Christopher[1]

Death and burial : Jacob died before 24 February 1808, in either Northumberland County [2] or Snyder County, PA.[7]

Notes

Jacob's mother's name has not been confirmed, but has been given at various times by various people as Anna Mary Catharina Moore and also as Anna Kunigunta. The second name is probably a reference to the couple named Henrich Meyer and Anna Kunigunta, who emigrated from Germany to New York; no records exist to show that they ever spent time in Pennsylvania, and they are not believed to have had a son named Jacob.

Abraham Myers had previously been mistakenly included as a son of this family, but has since been removed. (Cooke-7654 16:16, 11 December 2022 (UTC) This relationship can be considered disproven and Abraham has been removed from this family per a deed from Jackson Co., Georgia:

Myers-3953 and Meyer-675 appear to represent the same person because: These were set in an unmerged match back in January because a lot of work needed to be done to clean up the children and merge duplicate wives. As often happen, people just forget about it and it stays an unmerged match. Let's merge and then work can be done to clean up. Meyer appears to be the preferred spelling as it is the spelling of the father.

Myers-3953 and Meyer-675 are not ready to be merged because: I think they should be merged, but a note to all profile managers, that some of the later children i.e., Eva, and maybe even Catherine, seem to be born too late for the mothers. Also, we need to clean up why Susanna Ream is listed twice as a wife in Meyer-675. Lots of work to do after this merge!
Myers-3953 and Meyer-675 appear to represent the same person because: same name; same mother; same B/D data.

Myers-3953 and Meyer-675 are not ready to be merged because: I am concerned that the names and places of birth of the children include some oddities (such as a birth in VA), and that there is very little overlap among the children. Is it possible that with a common name like Myers/Meyer, several families have been conflated? Has anyone found a will for Jacob?
Myers-3953 and Meyer-675 appear to represent the same person because: Exact dates and same mother
@Maria yes it appears so
