Two thousand five hundred Virginia Militia were stationed within the entrenchments at Winchester, Frederick County, Virginia, on 21 July, 1861

First Virginia Militia Infantry or One Hundred & Forty-sixth Virginia Militia Infantry (Shenandoah County): COL. H ST G ALBERT The 146th Virginia Militia Infantry (Shenandoah County), was called out by General J E Johnston, Confederate States Army, on 21 June, 1861, and Company A was accepted in Confederate service at Harrisonburg, Rockingham County, Virginia, on 1 July, 1861; Company F on 4 July, 1861; Company E at Woodstock, Shenandoah County, Virginia, on 5 July, 1861; Companies B and C on 5 July, 1861; Company G at Strasburg, Shenandoah County, Virginia, on 11 July, 1861; Company H at Front Royal, Warren County, Virginia, on 12 July, 1861; and Company K at Front Royal, Warren County, Virginia, on 3 November, 1861. The regiment was mustered in Confederate service at Winchester, Frederick County, Virginia, on 11 July, 1861, and was disbanded on 23 March, 1862. Note: The 146th Virginia Militia Infantry (Shenandoah County), Company K, arrived at Martinsburg, Berkeley County, Virginia, on 19 November, 1861.
