Joshua Merriam was born on February 21, 1708, in Lexington, Middlesex, Massachusetts [1], to John Merriam 45, and Mary Wheeler 34. He married Susannah Gleason on November 12, 1733, in Oxford, Massachusetts. They had 10 children in 20 years. He died on June 7, 1784, in Worcester, Massachusetts, having lived a long life of 76 years.

"SUSANNAH GLEASON, 5 (Thomas, 4 Thomas, 3 Thomas, 2 Thomas, 1 ) b. Oxford, Jan. 3, 1716; m. Nov. 12, 1733, Joshua, son of John and Mary (Wheeler) Merriam, who was b. in Oxford ; bp. Feb. 22, 1708. He d. at N. Gore, June 7, 1784. She d. Oct. 1, 1788."[2]

"Joshua 5 (John* Joseph,^ Joseph," William'), born in Lexington, Feb. 21, 1707-8, baptized the next day; married Nov. 12, 1733, Susanna, daughter of Thomas Gleason, Jr. He owned land in " the Country Gore," Oxford, where he lived, and also in " Roxbury and Gardner's, Canada," the tract given to those who were in the Canada expedition, under Capt. Andrew Gardner. He was ensign in 1751, lieutenant in 1754. He was captain of North Gore Militia Company, and marched with his command, August, 1757, on the alarm to relieve Fort William Henry; went to Sheffield, and returned. The house he built in 1730 lasted till 1843, and was the birthplace of three generations of ten children each.
He died June 7. 1784. His widow died Oct. 1, 1788."[3]
