Biography

Christian (Menteith) Erskine is a member of Clan Erskine.

Birth

Christian was the daughter of Sir John Menteith, Lord of Arran and Knapdale, and his wife, Elene of Mar.[1][2]

Marriage

She married Sir Edward de Keith[1][2] on an unknown date. This marriage produced one child, Janet de Keith, who first married Sir David Barclay of Brechin[1][2] and secondly, before 13 April 1370, Sir Thomas Erskine of Erskine.[3][1][2] Christian Menteith (Keith) married Sir Robert Erskine about 1352.[1][2][4] Christian and Sir Robert had no surviving children.[4]

Death

Christian died around 1387. The location of her burial location is unknown.[4]

Research Notes

  • It was through Janet de Keith's marriage to Sir Thomas Erskine that their son Robert Erskine, 1st Lord Erskine, claimed the Earldom of Mar, making Janet the link between the ancient and modern Earls of Mar.[5]
