JOSEPH2 MELUGIN , born 1773 near Guilford Court House, North Carolina; died 11 March 1845 in Jasper County, Missouri. His wife, MARY "POLLY" MITCHELL was born near Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, 1775, and died 1838 in what was then Newton County, Missouri. Joseph and Mary were married 25 November 1798, Davidson County, Tennessee (Court Record). They had lived in Davidson and Dickson Counties until 1830; Sangamon County, Cottonhill Township, Illinois from 1830 until 1835; Newton and Jasper Counties, Missouri until their deaths as shown by deeds in each county and by Death Records of Jasper County. Joseph served as a Private and Sargent in Captain James Haggard's Company, Mounted Gunmen, Colonel Dyer's Regiment, Tennessee Volunteers, from 1 January 1814 to 14 May 1814. He was honorably discharged at Camp Blount, Fayetteville, Lincoln County, after serving on an expedition under the command of Major General Andrew Jackson. His original discharge preserved by Joseph W. and Frank.
