Biography

2 Feb 1887 Roy Clifton Mellen was born in Nichols, Trumbull, Fairfield, Connecticut, United States. [1] He was the son of Henry Mellen and Emma Bishop. [2]

30 June 1900 census, Roy C Mellen (age 13) was with his parents and 3 siblings in Belchertown, Hampshire, Massachusetts, United States. His parents had been married for 20 years and 2 of their eight children had died.[3]

15 June 1907 Roy C Mellen (age 21) married Lulu M Plumb (age 24) in Southwick, Hampden, Massachusetts, United States. Roy was born in Bridgeport, the son of Henry J Mellen and Emma Bishop. Lulu was born in Southington, Connecticut, the daughter of William Plumb and Annie Elridge .[4]

12 May 1910 census, Roy (age 23) and Lulu (age 27) were living in the household of Lulu’s parents Willard W Plumb (age 51) and Anna (age 52) in Westfield, Hampden, Massachusetts, United States. Roy and Lulu had been married for 2 years with no children. It was the first marriage for each. Roy was a factory laborer. Her parents had been married for 31 years and 2 of their 4 children had died. Willard had “his own income.”[5]

5 June 1917 Roy Clifton Mellen registered for the WWI Draft in Westfield, Hampden, Massachusetts, United States. He gave his birthdate as 2 Feb 1887 in Nichols, Connecticut. He worked as a carpenter in Westfield and had a wife and mother-in-law solely dependent on him. He was described as a white married 30 year old, medium in both height and build with brown eyes and dark hair. He was not bald or disabled.[1]

In the 1920 census, Roy C Mellen (age 32) and his wife Lulu were renting in Westfield, Hampden, Massachusetts, United States. Roy was a house carpenter.[6]

In the 1930 census, Roy C Mellin (age 43) was with his wife in West Springfield, Hampden, Massachusetts, United States. He owned a $7500 house. Roy was a building carpenter. He was not a veteran.[7]

About 21 Jan 1931 Roy C Mellen passed away in West Springfield, Hampden, Massachusetts, United States[8] and was buried in Oak Hill Cemetery, Southington, Hartford, Connecticut, United States.[9][10]
