Biography

Alexander Meldrum was born about 1845, son of William Meldrum (1789–1870) and Janet Irving (~1805–1872).^[1]

In 1851, Alexander (5)'s occupation was 'scholar'. He was living in household of William Meldrum (62) in Village of Bonnington, Ratho with his parents, William (62) and Janet (46); and his siblings, Janet (22), William (19), John (14), Fanny (12), Thomas (10), and Martin (3). ^[1]

Alexander married Jessie Kirk (born about 1846 in Dalbeattie, Kirkcudbright; daughter of John Kirk and Jane Carnan). Their son was John Meldrum (1873–1944).

In the 1871 census Alex Meldrum (age 26) was the married head of household on High Street, Urr, Dalbeattie, Kirkcudbrightshire, Scotland.^[2]
