Elspet Meldrum was born 8 Sept 1859 to parents William Meldrum and Elizabeth Robertson, in Insch, Aberdeen, Scotland^[1]

Marriage

Elspet was married at the tender age of 16 to Alexander (1month before his 23rd birthday) on 11 Jun 1876 (registered 17 Jun 1876) in the Parrish of Merrywood, Newhills, Scotland. The Statutory of Marriages 1876 shows Alexander's occupation as a carter (carrier of goods by wagon). Elspet's father is listed as William Meldrum and his occupation as papermill worker. Her mother is listed as Elizabeth (Robertson) Meldrum. Alexander's father is listed as William Howitt occupation as a carter. Alexander's mother is listed as Jessie/Janet (Bannerman) Howitt.^[2]
