Biography

Hugh was born January 27, 1892 in Big Timber, Montana. He was the son of John McLaren and Nellie Wart. Hugh preferred to go by the name of Jake. In 1911 Jake enlisted in the U.S. Army. He was honorably discharged in 1914. He was also a blacksmith by trade. Hugh Jacob appeared in Steamboat Springs, Colorado in 1930. He was married to Mary Alavir Davis, and was also living with his half brother James McCullam. He was working as a driver for the Transfer Company. Between 1937 and 1941 he was working as a janitor at Baker High School and was married to Ida Baker. Hugh and Iva did not have any children together. In 1942 Jake registered for the draft. He was self-employed and operated a sawmill in Baker, Oregon. He passed away February 21, 1980 in Mount Vernon Washington and is buried at Pleasant Ridge cemetery in La Conner, Washington.
