Robert Wendell McNair was born in Springfield, Nova Scotia on May 15, 1919.^[1] He was the son of Kenneth McNair and Hilda Grimm.

At the time of the 1921 Canada Census, Kenneth, Hilda, Stanley, and Robert McNair were listed as living in North Battleford, Saskatchewan, along with a lodger.^[2]

Buck died in Hammersmith, London on 15 January 1971,^[3] and was buried in Brookwood Military Cemetery, Brookwood, Woking, Surrey.^[4]
