Joe, looks like we are connected! By marriage! My uncle Wm. Fredrick Wilder is the husband of Mable Edna Thuenen. Do I fill in with what I know or do we need to merge first? I won't do anything until I hear from your or someone at Wiki Tree.
Yes, I think you can submit changes/updates and since I own the people you potentially will update, I will merge those in/approve them.

I will do so later today or this evening.

I think I found him! 1Lt Fred Phillip “Mickey” Motz Jr. https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/56374408/fred-phillip-motz He was born in 1919 in New York. https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:MJRX-18B He married Margaret Colbert in June of 1944 https://www.ancestry.com/discoveryui-content/view/5945441:61632?ssrc=pt&tid=75557565&pid=212154867059 He died 8 Jan 1945 (aged 25) in France and was buried in Epinal American Cemetery and Memorial in Epinal, Departement des Vosges, Lorraine, France.

The profile states he died in 1944, but the Battle of the Bulge lasted until 28 Jan 1945. Probably the death date was shown as 1944 since that is the year most known for the Battle of the Bulge. Also the profile states he was married 6 weeks prior to his death, probably an easily confused for 6 months prior to his death. What do you think? If you are in agreement I'll work up his profile with the records I have found, including census records and more. If he isn't close to your family I would be happy to manage his profile. I'm trying to organize a Motz name study and am happy to resolve this "mystery" profile! Thanks!

Hi Joe, I wonder if you might have any further information you could add to this profile https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Motz-251 "Died KIA, USA. 1944 Source: Note: Battle of the Bulge 6 Weeks after marriage."

Do you know his spouse's name, or that of a parent? His birth year or age at death? Thanks!

I'm not exactly sure how he was added into the family tree info. I had uploaded a GEDCOM file years ago to work on it here and I suspect that he was added as a part of the research on my wife's side of the family. Her great-great-uncle fought and died in WWII and I'm wondering if he mentioned it as a part of his letters/stories and they added it here.

Hello again!

This week we have your last stop on the guided tour. We want to give you just a few more tools that can take you even deeper into the WikiTree forest without getting lost: How to Dig a Little Deeper.

As always, your questions are welcome!

Hi!

You've probably been hard at work adding family members and getting connected to those that are already here. You should have at least a few profiles that you manage now. So, this week we're going to look at how to work with your Watchlist: How to Manage Your Watchlist.

Please let me know if you have any questions! I am happy to help!

Joe--

You've been here for three weeks now! We hope your profiles are starting to come together and that you've enjoyed getting to know all of us a little better. You're probably getting a good feel for the collaborative nature of WikiTree by now. We know that collaboration isn't always easy. So, we've put together a few pointers that can make working in this type of environment a little easier: How to be a Successful WikiTreer. As always, your questions are welcome!

Hi Joe,

I'm a member of the Mentor project, and I just wanted to check in and see how things are going. Do you have any questions I can answer?

Joe --

You are now a confirmed member, and you can get started adding your family members. As we've said, WikiTree is quite different from other genealogy sites. So, we've put together a guided tour to help you learn how to use it. Your first stop is How to Start Climbing Our Tree.

Tomorrow, you'll hear from a Mentor who will check in to see how you're doing and answer any questions you might have.

Next week, you'll get another message with your next stop on the guided tour.

You can also meet some of our members by joining in the fun with our Question of the Week in the G2G forum: Do you have a favorite photo of an ancestor?

Welcome!

Shirley

Hello Joe, welcome to WikiTree!

The email we just sent has helpful links to get you started.

WikiTree is different because our goal is to have one profile per person, and that means we share ancestors and work together as a BIG collaborative team!

What brings you to WikiTree? Do you have research you’d like to share? Are you interested in how your family fits into the big tree?

When you confirm your email address, you’ll be given an opportunity to volunteer to help document our collective family history. Use the Tags and comments to tell us about your genealogical interests.

When you volunteer, one of our Greeters will confirm your membership. Then you'll be able to add your family to the tree!

We're really glad you're here!

Shirley
