Mary McLeod was born about 1894, in Prince Edward Island, Canada. She came to the United States in 1919. She married Charles J. McLean about 1925. They settled in South Boston, Massachusetts, and had three children there:[1][2]
According to the 1940 Census, her two sons, John and Charles, had been living with a Ms. Catherine Rooney, of Woburn, Massachusetts, where they were designated as "city wards," since at least April 1, 1935. It can therefore be assumed that both parents were deceased prior to that date.[6]
