Biography

Malcolm McLaren is a member of Clan MacLaren.

According to the 1841 census, a Malcolm McLaren, age 98, was living on Dundas Street in Comrie with Christian McLaren, age 63. both born in Perthshire, indicating that Malcolm was born about 1743. This is believed to be the record of Malcolm and his daughter-in-law Christian Stoddart McLaren, although Christian was born in Fifeshire, not in Perthshire.

Malcolm married Janet Graham in 1772.[1]

Malcolm was a shepherd. They lived at "Clathic" near Comrie, but in the summer went up to "Tienashee" to keep an eye on all their sheep.[2] The births of their sons Gilbert, John and Hugh were recorded in 1785, 1788, and 1791 respectively, and a daughter Elizabeth in 1782, all in Comrie. Their first son was christened John in 1780, but later known as James, and born in Glenalmond, according to the 1851 census, and nearby Monzie, according to the 1861 census.

They also had a daughter, Christian, in 1775[3] who married Duncan McLaren and died a widow, in 1863.[4]
