Biography

Alexander was born in Aberdeen, Scotland, on 29 March 1848 and baptised in St Mary's with St Peter's Catholic Church in Aberdeen on 9 April. His parents were Alexander McKenzie and Elspet Davidson, and his sponsors were Robert Davidson and Margaret Simpson.

The family, consisting of Alexander and Elspet, baby Alexander and another son, John, aged 2, emigrated to South Australia via the assisted passage scheme. They departed London on 23 October 1848 on board the Marion, and arrived at Port Adelaide on 10 February 1849. The passenger list only names four people, but the Adelaide newspapers reported that the McKenzies arrived with three children. There is no child listed for the McKenzies in the births on board, and with Alexander's birth only 10.5 months prior to their arrival, a younger third child is highly unlikely.[1][2][3]

He passed away in 1925.
