His marriage license says that he was born on the 3rd of September, 1844 which makes sense as his older brother, James McHenry, was born almost a year before (24 August 1843) and a McHenry [1]biography says the family moved from New York City to Philadelphia when his older brother, James, was almost " a year old ". [2]
His baptismal records says that he was born on the 2nd of September, 1844. He was baptized at St. Patrick's Church in South Philadelphia county on the 15th of September, 1844. The godparents were "Jacobus" James Farrelly (msp?) and Catherine Na___.[5]
on the 5th of June [note: not 4th of July], 1906, at St. Francis of Assisi Church, "Joannem" McHenry married "Joannam" O'Brien.The witnesses were Martin Burke and Ella Henrick[6][7]
McHenry - On July 4th 1910, John McHenry, husband of Jane McHenry, age 63 years. Relatives & friends, also Court Wayne No. 178, _ of A and employees (sic) of Midvale Steel Works are invited to attend funeral. Thursday morning, at 8:30 o'clock from his late residence at 5028 Portico Street. High mass of requiem at St. Francis of Assisi Church at 10 o'clock. Interment at Old Cathedral Cemetery. "September 1847" is listed as his birth date but in 1860 census when he is a 16 years old.
NOTE: In the 1870 Philadelphia City directory, John McHenry was working as a shoemaker at 2014 Callowhill, Philadelphia which is his half-brother's place.
NOTE: By 1880, Philadelphia City directory has [Rosa] McHenry, widow of Denis, living at 3735 Lancaster. Her son, John, shoemaker, is living there as well. This location is located exactly at 38th Avenue and Lancaster Street (building still standing).
In the 1890 Philadelphia city directories, he is listed as a Shoemaker at 4343 Germantown Avenue.
NOTE: In 1900 Philadelphia census, John McHenry, Shoemaker, is a boarder at Annie Murphy's place. Also boarding there is Jane O'Brian , his future wife .
MARRIAGE LICENSE: It says he lived at 4456 Germantown Street in Philadelphia by the 3rd of June 1906.
MARRIAGE RECORD: On June 4, he is married by a Catholic priest named Jeremiah Nevins who is a Priest from Ireland ( 1920 census, 1890 Philadelphia City directory has a "Rev, Jeremiah D. Nevin", at Green & Logan Streets which is St. Francis of Assisi Church). Assumption is they married at St. Francis of Assisi Church because Father Nevin registered the marriage civilly on June 5, 1906.
NOTE: In 1910 Philadelphia Ward 22, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania census, John McHenry, age 63, ( b. abt 1847 ), is living with his sister, Elizabeth McHenry, age 72, and his wife, Jennie O. McHenry, age 63.
NOTE: 1910 - There is an address of 5023 Portico Street , Philadelphia Co., NY on John's death certificate. This house is still standing in Philadelphia (2016).
NOTE: Mrs. McHenry listed on as the informant on the death certificate. Stated that his parents were "unknown". As there were married barely two years and his parents long deceased, the informant probably did not know this information.
