Note: Fred Meytre bought the McGalliard place from Dr. W.M. McGalliard on October 16, 1905. It consisted of 745 acres at that time. The place extended from the corner of C.S. Berry's farm south to the present site of S.L. Cline's poultry house, east to the corner of the old Bounous place, north to J.H. Pascal's home which is in the old Rye-field section and west to the beginning, crossing the creek below McGalliard's mill. It is this section about which Mr. Cooper's story is written.

Mr. Meytre has the original grant of a large part of this land. It is for 400 acres granted to John McTaggart by the state of North Carolina on November 22, 1806.

The grave yard of this place stands in the forest on top of the hill west of Fred Meytre's home. It is thickly wooded with several stumps scattered here and there indicating that the timber was cut over several years ago. A rough estimate places the number of graves at about 200. It has been a good many years since the last body was buried there. Among the names found on the headstones which are in place there today are Alexander McGalliard, Martha H. McGalliard, Samuel McNeely, Martha McNeely, Margaret L. McNeely, Mary E. Baker, W.G. Duval, James Duval and others.
