Biography

GOULBURN POLICE COURT. WEDNESDAY, MAY 12. BEFORE the police-magistrate. George Taylor was charged with allowing a cow to stray, and was fine 5- and 26 costs. Sarah MeFarlane v Jane Morrison. This was a cross summons case, in, which, each party charged the other with assault. Mr. Betts for Mrs. McFarlane, and Mr. Gannon for Mrs. Morrison. From the evidence adduced it would seem that the parties, who are related by marriage, had a dispute about the date on which Mrs. McFarlane was married, the upshot of which was that of Thursday, a fortnight ago, Mrs. Mc Farlane went to Mrs. King- don's, Auburn-terrace, where Mrs. Morrison was residing (Mrs. Kingdon being her sister), and called out Mrs. Morrison and asked her what she had to say about her. The result was a row, in which blows were struck, and the two belligerents had to be separated by Mr. Kingdon. After hearing the evidence which was lengthy, the police-magistrate dismissedboth cases.

Background: Sarah McFarlane (nee Ibbitt) gave birth to a baby in 1879, the same year she was married to William McFarlane who was Grace Kingdon's and Jane Morrison's brother.
