Thelma was commissioned as a nurse in the Australian Army Nursing Service (AANS) and posted with the 2/10th Australian General Hospital to Malacca, Malaya.[1]
Thelma was evacuated from Singapore on 10th February aboard the Wah Sui as one of six nurses accompanying many wounded. The ship made it to Batavia (Jakarta) and the nurses were eventually repatriated home.[2]
Thelma was discharged from the AANS on 4th June 1943.
