Hi, You will find William's birth in Cape Town South Africa. His father was in the 74th Highland foot regiment in India. After leaving the regiment he and his wife and William's elder sister travelled to Cape Town. William and is other sister were born there. When his children were born, on all but the last he has put that he was born in Inverness but he has put Cape town recorded the birth of Thomas Hedley Charles. If you go to the LDS site and search the records for Cape town you will find him recorded there. His father John Grant Mc Donald and Mother Cecilia McDonald. His older sister Elizabeth (married name Treleaven) and also has a child recoded there. Cecilia's maiden name was Nelson and her father was also in the 74 Highlanders. She was 14 when she married John in India. She states that she was born in Aberdeen but actually you will find her in the GRO regimental births Indices 1761-1924 Waterford Ireland where her father was station with the74th Highland regiment in 1841.
Hope this is helpful Heather,
