Biography

Richard (Dock) McCoy[1] was born 16 Aug 1891. He was the son of Richard "Dick" McCoy and Elisabeth Winifred Williams. Richard was known to everyone as Dock. Dock was a coal miner and a farmer. He was a man of high standards and of few words. He always said, " Every tub sits on its own bottom" meaning we are all responsible for our own lives. He was a member of Moore's Chapel Baptist Church, Petros F&AM Lodge No.625 and the Lafollette Masonic Lodge.

He married Nancy Elizabeth Davis on December 21, 1916. They lived in an area in the mountains called New River. Dock and Nan's home was in the Moorse Camp area of New River. Dock had six siblings. Richard was in the United States World War I

He and Nan had six children together. Dock and Nan loved gardening, flowers, having their children and grandchildren around them and especially at Christmas time. Everyone would go to their home to celebrate the Christmas Holiday. They loved to sit on their front porch in the evening and watch the children play and the sunset in the beautiful mountains of New River.

When the mines on New River closed down Dock moved to La Follette, Tennessee and they lived there until they passed away. Dock died 3 Oct 1976 and is buried at Campbell Memorial Gardens, La Follette, Tennessee. His beloved wife Nancy Elizabeth Davis McCoy joined him there on 11 Jun 1984.

Lafollette Miner Dies Of Heart Attack Dock R. McCoy, 85, of 400 North 13th St., Lafollette Community Hospital of a heart attack. A retired miner, he had worked for Moore Coal Co., of New River, and he worked on his New River farm until about four years ago. He was a member of Moore's Chapel Baptist Church, Petros F&AM Lodge No.625 and the Lafollette Masonic Lodge. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Nancy Elizabeth McCoy, three daughters, Claudine McCoy and Jamie Bary of Lafollette and Mrs. Faye Lowe of Clinton, a son Joe McCoy of Wartburg, 19 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held Tuesday at Cox Funeral Home Chapel in Lake City with the Rev. Lester Anderson officiating. Burial and masonic services were held at Campbell Memorial Gardens.

Doc, Lived in the New River area in Anderson County TN. He was a coal miner, worked in his vegetable garden and loved his family. He left the New River area when the coal mines shut down and moved with his wife Nan to Lafollet, TN where they are both buried at Campbell County Memorial Gardens.
