Died of injuries received in an Automobile Accident.

Obituary Published in Christian County Republican Sept. 7, 1950

William (Bill) McCord, 20-year-old Ozark youth, died Sunday afternoon of injuries he received in a one-car accident at the Elk Valley crossing between Ozark and Selmore. The youth was hurled from the car when it overturned, apparently after striking gavel while rounding a curve. He and the four other occupants of the car were brought to Ozark, then he was rushed on to Springfield in a Chaffin ambulance. He was pronounced dead on his arrival in Springfield. The four others were injured, but none seriously. They were Wayne Leon Sowards, 22, who was driving his 1936 Ford coach, George Stoner, 23, Orville Johnson, 20, and Rex Cobb, 19, all of Ozark. McCord suffered head and internal injuries. He was an odd job worker. William McCord was born September 20, 1929 at Carthage, Missouri. His father and mother both preceded him in death. At the age of 11 he went to Springfield to reside with an aunt and uncle, Mr. and Mrs. W.J. Dooly. In Springfield he attended Boyd Grade School and Pipkin Junior High School. He then moved to Ozark to live with his grandmother, Mrs. Jane McCord, and he attended school at Ozark. He is survived by one sister, Mrs. Keith Fiscus of Olathe, Kansas; his grandmother, Mrs. Jane McCord; three aunts, Mrs. Lula Baird of Ozark, Mrs. Lewis Holdway of Elkland, and Mrs. W.J. Dooly of Springfield; and by one uncle, Jim McCord or Billings.
