Rose McConnell was born on April 8, 1892 to Peter and Sallie (Billiu) McConnell in Greensburg, Decatur, Indiana. She moved to Shreveport, Louisiana in 1901.[1][2]
After winning a cake-baking competition that Huey Long had organized, Huey and Rose met and married in Shreveport, Louisiana on April 12, 1913. They remained married until his death in 1935. She never remarried.[3] Rose worked as a secretary to put her husband, Huey, through Tulane Law School. She later served as his political adviser.[3]
She served in the US Senate from January 31, 1936 to January 3, 1937.[1]
Rose Long was posthumously inducted into the Louisiana Political Museum and Hall of Fame in Winnfield, Louisiana on February 1, 2014[2]
Rose McConnell Long died on May 27, 1970 in Boulder, Colorado. She is buried in Forest Park Cemetery in Shreveport, Louisiana. [5]
