Marriage Husband James W. McCLAIN. Wife Sarah Bailey. Child: Dolly T McClain Bailey. Marriage Dec 3, 1787. Amherst County, Virginia. [1]

NOTE: On 31 May 1854 in Kanawha County VA Dolly Allen applied for a pension as the widow of William Allen. As supporting evidence the file includes an original family record certified by William H. Allen and Landen Allen, and transcribed below. On 31 Oct 1855 Dolly Allen applied for bounty land, certified by James M. Allen. On 11 April 1866 she applied for restoration of her pension, which had been suspended during the Civil War.
William Allen and Dolly his wife was married December 16th 1807.

Dolly's surname is McClain, not McCain

As Dolly is listed as William Allen's second wife, was she also married before? to someone with the surname Bailey? Her mother's maiden name was Bailey and In that era I don't think her LNAB would have been McClain Bailey.
