Martha A. McCaleb was born in 1845 in Fayette County, Alabama, United States. She was the daughter of John Allery McCaleb (~1805–~1886) and Mary Ann Hackworth (1819–1901).[1]

In 1850, Martha was living with her family in Division 15, Fayette County, Alabama. She was five years old. [1]

In 1870, Martha and her family were living in Township 1, Range 1, Madison County, Alabama. The closest post office was in New Market. She was keeping house.[3]
