Gilchrist-Mayoh Wedding

The newspaper TOWNSVILLE EVENING STAR published the following item shortly after her marriage:-

"Wedding.

Mayoh Gilchrist Wedding Cake.

Gilchrist-Mayoh.

A very pretty wedding was solemnised at St John's Church of England, South Townsville, on Saturday, the 14th May, the Reverend Butterworth officiating, when James Smith (eldest son of Mr and Mrs W. Gilchrist, of Townsville), was joined in holy matrimony to Olive Beatrice (eldest daughter of Mr and Mrs W. Mayoh, Ravenswood).

The dainty bride entered the church on the arm of her uncle, Mr E. Bridgland, who subsequently gave her away. She was gowned in a very pretty ivory morocain frock, with a tight-fitting corsage, daintily pin-tucked and shirred at waistline. The skirt hung in a full flare to the ankles. Her veil, which was kindly lent by Mrs E. Crow, was of tulle, worn Madonna fashion, held in place at each side with sprays of orange blossom and silk baby ribbon. The bouquet consisted of satin arum lillies and bridal fern, and was kindly sent by Mrs P. Harbourne. Misses Olive Bridgland (cousin of the bride), and Gladys Gilchrist (sister of the bridegroom), attended as bridesmaids, both being frocked in jade green mariette, with satin shoes to match. Their hats were of champagne visca straw with heather trimming. Both carried bouquets of gerberas daintly arranged by Mrs Donovan. The duties of best man and groomsman were carried out by Mr Wilson Gilchrist and Reg. Andison respectively.

As the bride entered the church, ' The Bridal March' was played, and a number of the bride's and bridegroom's friends sang ' The Voice that Breathed O'er Eden', and during the signing of the Register, Mr Dave Foley sang and 'Ave Maria'. On leaving the church the 'Wedding March' was played by Mr Vic. Foley, who presided at the organ throughout the ceremony.

The wedding breakfast was held at the residence of the bride's aunt, Mrs E. Bridgland, who received the guests in a frock of navy blue morocain with tonings of pearl grey, and hat to match. Mrs Gilchrist, the bridegroom's mother, was frocked in a charming brown morocain costume relieved with strappings of fawn, hat to tone. The bride's travelling frock was of brown figured crepe-de-chene, with which was worn a dainty brown felt hat,"
