Allen Mayo was born on 14 Jul 1802 Patrick, Virginia, United States. He was the son of Thomas Mayo and Mary Blair. He passed away in 16 Feb 1891 Randolph, Missouri, United States.

In 1817, Allen Mayo arrived in what became Silver Township, Randolph County, MIssouri. According to his son-in-law, George W. Dameron, Allen Mayo "was among the first [white men] to discover the old salt well at Randolph Springs. He used to go there to bathe in the salt water.... [He] was very fond of hunting, and this [the salt lick] was one of his favorite places for shooting deer."
In 1831, Mayo purchased land near the border of Chariton County and Randolph County, close by Silver Creek: Township 53 North, Range 16 West, Section 21 (western half of the NE quarter), which is a couple of miles southeast of the city of Salisbury.
