Daniel Mayo was born no later than 1733,[1] likely in Goochland County to his parents William Mayo, an English born land surveyor, and Ann Perratt.
When his father passed away in 1744 (when he would have been about 10 years old), his will stipulated that Daniel would inherit several of his fathers' slaves (to be split evenly between himself and his brothers John and Joseph), and would also become one of the executors after his mother's death.[2]
Marriage and Children
In 1751 Daniel married a recently widowed Mary (Hawyward) Sweeney) in his nearby Amelia County.[3]
They were married for just under a decade, before Daniel's death in 1760, and had two sons in that time:
He wrote his own final will on the 8 December 1760 in Cumberland Co., and then updated on the 15 December 1760. It was then proven in the County court on February 23, 1761.[4]
