Biography

Joseph was born in 1844 and baptized in Grand Coteau, Louisiana. He is the son of Joseph Marc Matte and Josephine LeJeune. [1]

He married Marie Furge. While their parents are not listed, it seems likely that the marriage record from 1866 is his. [2]

The 1870 census shows him and Marie living together along with his father and two of his younger siblings. His father was still living with them in 1880.

After the death of Marie, he married Josephine Dassieu on 25 Aug 1885 in Church Point, Louisiana. [3]

Josephine died in November 1886, likely from childbirth complications. [4]

Joseph then married Josephine Doucet on 12 April 1887 in Church Point, Louisiana. [5]

He died in 1911 and was buried in the Old Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Church Cemetery in Church Point, Louisiana. [6]
