Biography

Clemmie Mathis Sr. is a part of US Black heritage.

Clem Mathis was born in 1909. He was the son of John Mathis and Maggie Pierce.

In 1927, he married Mildred Boyd.^[1]

"“I was born in Gilmer, Texas. There wasn’t much opportunity there for my father, Clem. So in 1939, he left Tina and me at my grandmother’s house and drove my mother, Mildred, my older sister, Marguerite, and my older brother, Clem Jr., to San Francisco to find work.”^[2]

He died in 1974^[3] and is buried in Cypress Lawn Memorial Park in Colma, California.^[4]

He has additional children who are still living.
