CHAPLAIN KEITH MATHIESON [1]
Padre Mathieson, mentioned by Rohan D Rivett in his broadcast from a Japanese-controlled radio station in Batavia as a fellow prisoner in a Nippon camp, is Chaplain Keith Mathieson, of Ivanhoe. Mr Mathieson was born in Camperdown, Victoria, in 1907.
After winning a scholarship at the Mont Albert Central School, he was a pupil at Melbourne High School. In 1929 he entered the Methodist ministry, and became a student at Queen's College, Melbourne University. Here he gained his MA degree, and was an exhibitioner each year. After his ordination, Chaplain Mathieson was stationed at Monbulk, Alexandra, and Cavendish circuits.
In February, 1941, he was appointed to naval establishments, and 12 months later was appointed to HMAS Hobart. He was travelling in HMAS Perth to join his ship when the naval action off the coast of Java took place, and he was subsequently captured by the Japanese.

Rev. James Keith Wilson Mathieson MA, [2]
chaplain, RAN a Methodist also on Perth, was born in Camperdown 35 years ago. His father, at one time, had a store in Cobden, opposite the post office, in partnership with Mr. Hotchin. Rev. Mathieson enlisted
for temporary service at the beginning of February, 1941. He was a school teacher, before entering Queen's College and served with the YMCA. till a vacancy as chaplain was open to him. He was stationed at Monbulk for five years and at Cavendish for three years. His wife lives with relatives at Ivanhoe.
He is a grandson of Rev. James Mathieson, of the Methodist Ministry.
