He was 13 when he joined the RN as a cadet. Involved with the third Anglo-Ashanti War of 1873-1874, then stationed in E Africa to supress the slave trade. In 1877 seconded into the sultan of Zanzibars Navy. In 1891 appointed into Zanzibar Government as First Minister.
Lloyd was mentioned on a memorial in Zanzibar English Cemetery, Zanzibar, Zanzibar Urban/West, Tanzania with a death date of 11 Sep 1901.[1]
