Research Notes

  1. Since she was born in Portugal, her name at birth was Aldonça Martins da Silva.[4] After she moved to Spain, she was called Aldonza Martinez de Silva.
  2. There seems to be some confusion regarding whether she married Diego Froilaz before or during her relationship with King Alonso, or after the relationship was over. In Nobiliario de D. Pedro, is says that Diego was married to Aldonça, "que tinha sido amiga del Rey D. Afonso de Leaõ" (who had been a friend of King Alonso de León).[4]
