Elizabeth Marshall was born in 1823 in the hamlet of West Newton and baptised in its parish church at Aldbrough on the East Yorkshire coast. [1] There are two more Aldbroughs in North Yorkshire, and several Newtons around the county. [1]
Elizabeth married Robert Gibson in 1841 in Cherry Burton, the home of his parents and her grandparents. [2]

In 1851 Hannah Milner, Elizabeth's sister, is in Arram close to the railway line where her new husband is plate-laying.

Elizabeth Gibson has left Hannah Gibson (8) with Grandma Mary (Weatherill) Marshall now 70, in Lockington .

In 1861 Robert and Elizabeth are a little east of Cherry Burton, in Lockington with daughter Hannah b West Newton a dressmaker. four younger children plus another young girl, and Elizabeth's mother, 79 year old Mary Marshall nee Weatherill.

In 1881 Robert has a small farm, just under 10 acres, probably inherited. [5]

It seems that Robert Gibson and his wife had needed help for at least two years and a flock of descendants had arrived . For some reason they were not housed on the farm but in the community Reading Room. Apparently Robert was still able to work at least at times. [6]
Death 1893 Cherry Burton
Elizabeth Gibson died in 1893 in Cherry Burton a little more than a year after her husband. [7]
