Margaret Marshall was one of the four known children of Irish immigrants Joseph Marshall and Mary Peden Marshall. They had sons Henry b 1752, David b 1754 and John b 1766 and daughter Margaret b 1756, their third child and only known daughter.

David Marshall, was born in Cumberland county, Pennsylvania, but removed to Bourbon county, Kentucky, about 1785; and thence the family removed to Boone county in Missouri.

Deposition of David Marshall, Nov. 27, 1816, states he came to Ky. 1783 to Lexington, and came with one James Powers to this part of the country and explored improvements of Wm. Steele and Wm. Nesbit; he understood said Powers was in Ky. 1780 and from Powers and others in neighborhood of said Powers was in old settlement.
