Biography

Gysbert was the son of Ahasuerus Marselis and Sara Taakels Heemstraat, baptized on 4 June 1704 in the Albany Reformed Dutch Church, New York. 4 June 1704 Gysbert, of Ahasueros Marselis and Sara Van Heemstrate. Wit.: Lucas Lucasse Hoogkerke and Huybertje Jeads ^[1][2]

Marriage

Gysbert Marcelis and Elisabeth Van Antwerpen were married on 31 May 1730, in the Schenectady Dutch Church. 9 May (banns), 31 May 1730, Gysbert Mercelius, jm, lives here, Elisabeth Van Antwerpen, jd, lives here ^[3] Pearson identified the couple as Gysbert Marselis, son of Ahasuerus, and Elisabeth Van Antwerpen, daughter of Arent Van Antwerpen.^[2]

Research Notes

Yates' 1902 History of Schenectady County mistakenly identified two of Gysbert's brothers as children of Gysbert:

• "Takel, another son of Gysbert, born January 1st, 1709." This is Takel Marselis.
• "Isaac, also a son of Gysbert, born June 29th, 1723." This is Gysbert's younger brother Isaac.
