Biography

In the Visitations of Essex, Jane Marlar the daughter of William Marlar and Margeret Perye was married to John Lingwood of Kelvedon, Essex.[1] From this, it is often concluded that she married John Lingwood who died 1597 naming his wife Joan. This is commonly found on the internet as it also makes her the grandmother of several immigrants to New England. However, it is certainly incorrect. John Lingwood and Jane Marlar were married on 14 December 1592 at Kelveldon.[2][3] She could not be the wife of the John Lingwood who was having children first born in 1547. It is more likely that she married the son John Lingwood (or even a grandson).

Joe - I think Jane was most likely to have been born in the 1560s, to allow for there to be one younger child than her, and then her father remarried and had two more children before his second wife Jane (Grene) Marler died around 1581. Her stepmother's will here https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Space:Will_of_Jane_Marler_of_Kelvedon%2C_Essex%2C_1581

She is certainly the Jane Marler baptized on 6 June 1562 at Kelvedon. Apparently a twin of Grace who was baptized on the same day. That both Grace and Jane are both named in the Visitation helps confirm this is correct. The baptisms of Ann (24 Sep 1559), and Dorothy (13 April 1561) from the Visitations are also found.

Disconnecting her from her husband John Lingwood. While the Visitations do show that she married a John Lingwood, it is chronologically impossible that she married the John Lingwood who was having children in the 1540s.

I have seen Jane Marlar Lyngwood (Lingwood) date of birth as 1530, 1540, and 1550 in various locations. Please post a link for location of her birth in 1530.

Jane Marlar Lyngwood could not have been born abt 1530. The attached record for her mother, Margaret Perye Marlar, indicates that she was born in 1522. That would mean that she was 8 years old when she had Jane.
