Biography
Morris Lyon Marks was born on 7 September 1824 at Liverpool, England, the son of Lyon Marks and Frances Marks (nee Levy).[1][2]
He arrived in Australia around 1845.[1]
In 1853 he was aboard the Osmanli when it was shipwrecked off Kangaroo Island, South Australia. Two gold bars were stolen from his luggage during the recovery of passengers’ luggage. See the story of the wreck.
He married Leah Rachel Solomon.[1] Their son Sidney Algernon was born in May 1858.[1]
He was a South Australian politician representing The Burra and Clare from March 1857 to August 1858. [3]
Morris died on 4 March 1893 at Albert Park, Victoria, Australia, aged 66 years.[1][2][4]
