Jean Marechal was born about 1729 in France. His birth is associated with the church of Saint-Vigor in Sartilly, near Carolles in the diocese of Avranches, Normandie (today Sartilly-Baie-Bocage, Manche), France, but his parents are not listed in the index by PRDH.[1] He arrived in Acadie around 1732.[2]

He married Marguerite Doiron, daughter of Charles Doiron and Anne Thériot around 1749 in Acadie.[3]

They had 2 known children: [1]

  2. Joseph born around 1755 in Acadie, d 1757-12-17 in Québec.

Jean was a fisherman and the owner of a schooner. Jean and Marguerite were listed in the 1752 census at Petit-de-Grat, Île Royale. [2]

p. 524 DGFA has her marrying Jean Maréchal. Checking further to see if he also married a woman named Hebert.

One source says he married Marguerite Doiron (who he is attached to), but the biography says his wife was Marguerite Hebert, with a SAW citation. Can anyone check that source to see if Hebert was written in error or if there were perhaps two wives?
