Biography

Alfred was born about 1854. He was the son of Daniel Marble and Abigail Crowninshield.

Alfred was a chair maker.

Alfred married Caroline S. (Oxford) Marble (abt.1839-1911),"Carrie," in 1878 in Westminster, Massachusetts. Carrie died in 1911.

Alfred married Mary Elizabeth Kilpatrick in 1912. They lived in Gardner, Massachusetts. Mary died in 1817 from burns sustained while lighting the gas stove.^[1]

He passed away in 1931.

Research Notes

• Alfred has not been located on the 1870 U.S. Census. His father died in 1868 and his mother was counted in Dover, Vermont with his sister Mindal Almanda (Marble) Hescock (abt.1846-1911).

• Alfred's first wife, Carrie, was a Free Person of Color. She was previously married to Peter B. Lew and had two children.
• Both Alfred and Carrie were noted as "African" on the Gardner, Massachusetts marriage record although Alfred was White and Carrie was Black.

• Alfred's 1920 U.S. Census record has not been located. He was likely still living in Gardner, Massachusetts because he appeared in the directory for that town^[2]

• The informant for Alfred's death record was Albert Boyd, the husband of Alfred's niece, Mary Hescock, daughter of Mindal Almanda (Marble) Hescock (abt.1846-1911).
